Books

I am reading a terrific book for book club called, Two-Part Invention by Madeleine L'Engle. She wrote A Wrinkle in Time. This book is an autobiographical account of her marriage to the love of her life, a broadway actor named Hugh Franklin. It is fascinating and charming! I love it! She was such a colorful woman! I guess there is a couple of volumes she has written about her life, and this is the one about her marriage. I just cannot put it down. I have been in a reading funk lately. Not finding anything that I love. Of course, there are always my standby's that I go to in these cases... I always fall back on the mysteries... But nothing else has grabbed me. I am usually a voracious reader. Reading several books a week, but lately I have been a slacker. Mostly cleaning my house and playing with my kids. I know, I know, shame on me! I should be sitting around reading book after enlightening book, but I just haven't found anything particularly engrossing. We read Cold Mountain last month and I couldn't get through it. This month is East of Eden but I can't go to books club this month and I have already read that a few times, I LOVE it, but I wasn't in the mood for it again. So this book has captured me. I am glad. I need something else to read after this... Our next book is When Broken Glass Floats. I am not really looking forward to that. But I can't go to that book club either, so maybe I won't read that. Any suggestions??? My cousin, Cyndi, has posted some good ideas on her blog... I need more, gals! Tell me, what can I read?

Let's see... Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingsolver is one of my all-time favorites. Also Skinny Dip by Carl Hiaasen and Night by Elie Wisel. Then there's Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz, Bag of Bones by Stephen King and Main Street by Sinclair Lewis. Oh! and Sarah Canary by Karen Joy Fowler. Happy reading!

I wish I had something good to tell you but I am in a slump as well. I want to read because I love it but I actually feel too busy. Maybe after this pioneer trek is over I will be able to get to the library and find something really good! In the meantime, good luck.

Jen, what is Cyndi's blog address? I would like to see her list.

Right now I am reading Sue Monk Kidd's the Mermaid Chair. It's okay, but I think that is my feeling about it because we just read one of similar genre last month. Middle aged, I'll-fall-in-love-and-have-an-affair-crisis type book. One a year is more that enough for me. But two in a row is a little much. I just finished Margaret Truman's Murder at the Washington Tribune. I've started Sheri Dew's book and the Upside down dog book, I have forgottem the tile. The one "written" by the austistic boy. I have a self full of books at home too to read. And not much time. Mom
