booked out

Sometimes I get booked out. This means that I just cannot for the life of me find a book that I find interesting enough to finish. I have started 3 books this week and have not finished any of them because I find them banal or just plain stupid. Then Vicki got me all excited thinking that the new Vampire was out and I sent Justin to Wal Mart to get it for me and he said that it doesn't come out for 3 more days. So there goes that. I rarely get into one of these funks, but when I do, it tends to last quite a while. It can sometimes last weeks and even months. I get into such a depression that I just quit even trying to find something that will hold my interest and don't read. I know that for those of you who know me, this may sound like a joke or a dirty and terrible lie. I know a lot of you, my dear and faithful readers, count on me for great book ideas. Some of you have gone so far as to call me in the middle of the day, long distance, just for a book recommendation! But I assure you, this is no joke. I am in a book funk. I may never read for pleasure again. I may be destined to read only recipes and the backs of cereal boxes. Maybe the occasional Dr Seuss and children's book for the kids, but I may never again be able to enjoy reading a novel for my own gratification. I may never be able to open the pages of a book and get so engrossed that I completely ignore my home and family and not come up for air... I may never experience the joy of existing only on oreos and potato chips and peeing in bottles so I don't have to get up from the comfortable spot on the couch where my dream world cannot be crushed by the menacing sounds of children laughing, and screaming... Has this ever happened to you, dear friends? I need a book... I need a great story. Something unpredictable and suspenseful and delicious that I can escape into that will hold my attention for hours at a time. I need a good book like a hero, it has gotta be strong, it has gotta be tough, it has gotta be up for the fight. What will I do without this great book? I will become a computer/tv/magazine junkie. Who wants that? Who wants that, I ask you? I know I don't I am sure you don't either. It is time for me to take back my life. It is time for me to find my book. A book that will change me, transform me, and generally get me out of this depression. I will do it. If I have to go to the ends of the earth. I will find that book. As you as my witnesses, I WILL find a book to read!!!

1. You might try googling before you send Justin out to get a book. I've just heard everyone pining away for that goofy vampire book and figured it was out already.

2. Read the Old Testmament for 30 minutes every day for a week and I guarantee you that you will find a book real quick like.

3. Why don't you just pass the time like I do and read food blogs on the net. VERY satisfying! :)

When I get in a book funk...I pick up a church book. I just finished reading the 2007 BYU Women Conference book...it was so good, and it was nice to read something that was almost like therapy, I had to participate. Now, I am ready to read the 4th Twilight book, though, and get back to reading just for pleasure! I love escaping in a book!

So, Breaking Dawn came out Friday at midnight--you should be able to find it, now. But, while you're still trying to find that book, you could write your own! I think you would be an excellent author! It could be a kids' book or for adults, but I'm sure it would be great.

Here are a suggestion for your former Book Club's recent list. Three Cups of Tea by greg Mortenson. None fiction but good so far and the other book I told you about by Jeannette Wall - Glass Castle....really good! If you haven't tried David Baldacci, try the Camel Club series. I forgot to ask you about your reading funk when we talked this morning....I'll check in later. Luv, Mom
