Walking to school

Now that the weather is nice we have been walking to school. It is much easier than it was in the fall. Hilton isn't quite as slow. But he does like to take in every bit that he can. There is a house on the way that has a little wading pool in their front yard. (Who knows why, I do not think 60 degrees is warm enough for swimming!) But everytime we pass, Hilton runs to the pool and says, "Can we take this swimming cool today?" We got new bathing suits for our trip to St George and he wants to wear it now! In a "Swimming Cool." Then when I can finally get him away from that we get to the bridge. During the winter the canal is empty, but in the last few weeks it has filled right up and is wonderful for seeing who can make the biggest splash with rocks. Hilton also likes to tear off a reed and throw it on one side of the bridge and run to the other side to see how fast it will travel underneath. I wonder what he is thinking as he does this. It is like magic to him. Does he think it is magic or does he realize that the river is just carrying the water underneath the bridge? Once we leave the bridge we walk through a field. I ask him how many different sounds he can hear. I admit it is more for my benefit than his education. It cracks me up to listen to his interpretation of bird calls. So, even though walking to school takes and extra 30 minutes from my day, it is worth it. I think Hilton must be learning something along the way. Or at least enjoying being outside after a long winter of hybernation.

What a nice way to start each day. I love seeing the world through the little ones' eyes.

That is a fantastic idea Jen. You are teaching him to be observant and to pay attention to what is around him. Hopefully it will translate later into paying attention in school and in primary. Or maybe he'll be paying attention to all the little people around him though. Anyway, what you are doing sounds really tood to me! You are an awesome Mommy. - Mom
