Dissed

So back in December I applied for a job at Caroline's old Preschool, East Bayou Baptist Church Mother's Day Out Program. I was excited because my friend Vicki's sister, Kari works there. It also would be perfect hours and I could bring Lorelai with me. I had not heard anything until the end of January when I got an interview. It went really well. The Director, Rachel sort of remembered me from a few years ago when I brought Caroline there every week. She liked all of my qualifications and said that she would like me to come back in a week and a half to do an observation and a little demonstration of m teaching skills. I was thrilled, but for some readon, I did not feel like this was going to happen. There was no reason for me to think this. The interview was great! Rachel was very friendly and we got along great and everything was... great! Well, 2 weeks passed and I had not heard anything so I called back to see what was going on. I figured she had been busy and just had not gotten around to calling me yet. Well, when I called Rachel was all weird sounding and vague. She said that their situation had changed and she would not be needing me afterall. But she loved getting to know me again and that if things changed again she would give me a call. Well, I told Vicki about this and asked her to ask Kari to try to get the scoop! Kari told Vicki that Rachel had confessed to Kari that she had lied to me. They are still hiring, they are just not hiring me because... wait for it.... I am a Mormon. And they have a new policy (apparently adopted since I applied for the job) that they are not hiring Mormons because they believe we are a cult. I was shocked! I have NEVER been discriminated against because of my religion before! I would have been less shocked and less offended had they just said I was too fat. Kari asked Rachel why she lied and told her it wasn't very Christian of her. Rachel said she felt really bad... ok... whatever. Needless to say, I will not be sending Lorelai to that Mother's Day Out Program. And Vicki will not be sending her little girl, Lillianne either. Which is a big disappointment since her other 2 kids went there and she has been a big supporter of their program because they never discriminated against Mormons before. Just ridiculous!

Wow! It's so hard to think that things like that actually happen. They don't know what they're missing without having you. So sorry!

So... if you are Mormon can you attend the school? I bet they would still take your money. This is ridiculous!! I think you should call KATC or something and get the media involved.

You know... it's illegal to discriminate on the basis of religion (Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964). You could sue. Even if you don't pursue it, I'd mention it to the hiring manager and remind her that even Christ taught nondiscrimination:

There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
Galatians 3:28

I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another.
John 13:34
