Impossible kid

Hilton is really driving me crazy with this baby-talk. He talks like a baby all the time now. I try to get him to talk normally but he won't do it. And he has been so defiant! He will not do one thing I ask! Threats to take away privilages don't even work. Is it his age or is it because of the baby coming. He has also developed an imaginary friend. Her name is Kaley. She comes with us everywhere and insists on getting her own book from the library. Luckily she shares other things with Hilton. But she does have to have her own place to sit in the car and at the table etc. So far, she hasn't done anything wrong, but I am worried that soon things will get blamed on her. Right now, everything is Caroline's fault. Even if I saw him do it. This is not something I need right now. Any suggestions, people? pregnancy

Hilton's four, right? I think it must be an age thing cuz my son has become a little monster, too. The only thing that works with Ben is serious consistency. When he gets defiant or does something wrong he gets one warning and then right into time out.

I wouldn't worry too much about the baby talk or the imaginary friend. An imaginary friend is just cute in my opinion. And my guess is, the baby talk is winning him some attention right now.

Try telling him that you want to do something fun with him, like take him to the park or go get an ice cream, but you can't because he's still a baby. Instead he'll just have to play with some baby toys and drink milk. When he complains you can tell him that when he starts talking like a big boy then you'll take him out. Works like a charm with most kids.

There must be something about four and boys. I was actually looking forward to Dallin turning four. When my girls turned four they grew out of the terrible three age really fast and magically seemed to be more obedient, less tantrums, etc. Not Dallin. He turned four this past Saturday and every day since then has been a nightmare. Dallin has never been this crazy. I have come close to leaving him on the side of the road several times this week. Timeouts do not work, taking away privileges does not work. If you figure out what to do with Hilton, please let us know. I will pay you money...or at least send you some really nice flowers:o)
